Hello, it's a pleasure to have you here again!👀 Now it's the turn of the Audiolingual Method, let me tell you about it 👌
This method
of teaching had its origins during World War II when it became known as
the Army Method. The Audiolingual method emphasizes the teaching of
listening and speaking before de reading and writing, and its main training
technique uses dialogues as the main form of language presentation and
drills.
The
objective of the audiolingual method is accurate pronunciation and grammar, the
ability to respond quickly and accurately in speech situations, and knowledge of
sufficient vocabulary to use with grammar patterns.
Some techniques that can be applied with the Audio-Lingual method are:
- Repetition drill: This drill is often used to teach the lines of the dialogue. Students are asked to repeat the teacher’s model as accurately and as quickly as possible.
- Substitution drill: The students repeat the line from the dialogue which the teacher has given them, substituting the cue into the line in its proper place.
- Question-and-answer drill: The drill gives students practice with answering questions.
- Transformation Drills: Students change sentences usually from affirmative to negative.
Activity:
Unfortunately, I don't have a photo but I will
explain what the activity was like.
We started the class practicing the first two
techniques, we made a circle and the teacher explained the first exercise that
only one-half of the circle would do, the dynamic was that we would introduce
ourselves by saying our name and then the name of those who passed before, that
is, we had to remember all the names and at the end say ours, in my case I was
the third so it was not complicated, but I saw how hard it was for those who
were last.
Then, the other half of the circle had to say
their favorite fruit and form the sentence "Every day when I get up I wash
my _____" and they said the fruit, it was really fun.
SWOT
S – The students
are active in the class, classes are more interesting, and the speaking and
listening skills are more drilled.
W – Sets
aside from the writing, and poor grammar skills, some meanings of words can be learned
only in a linguistic and cultural context.
O – The
pronunciation is more controlled, improve vocabulary by listening and
repeating.
T – Grammatical problems, unable to use the patterns fluently in natural speech situations.
That's all my friends, I hope this entry helps you to learn a little about The Audiolingual Method. See you soon at the next entry! 💁
