Groups 3 & 4 classes

Hi Starshine, The Earth Says "Hello!"馃専✌

Moving on, this time it was the turn of groups 3 and 4, Maru's group and mine. Since we were the ones who would start the day's classes I felt very nervous, and the fact that people hardly arrived made me panic, but after a while they arrived and we saw some new faces. 馃憖

As each student arrived we gave them stickers to write their names on, so that when we needed participation we could see the name and call them immediately馃懟. We taught 3 topics (greetings, verb to be in the affirmative, and spelling) similar to the last two classes but in our case, we focused on listening. We started with a listening activity to prepare them for what they were going to face馃槇. Then, we developed the topics and did other activities such as creating sentences with the verb to be, a spelling bee, another more complicated listening, and finally our famous Chayanne's Hot Potato馃, which was done with the song Torero to give them excitement. In addition, we gave out Colombian jellies and chocolates not only to those who got it right but to all the participants.馃挮

After the break, the second class started. The fourth group focused on greetings and spelling as well, but with more information about them and focused on reading.馃摉 They formed circles to play hot potato馃 so they could ask questions. Also, they did a reading comprehension test and at the end, they had them form groups so that everyone could do their conversation using the topics they had learned.馃.
(I stole the photo from Andres, who stole it from Fer)馃ぁ

We stayed until the end for teacher Orlando to give us our respective feedback, which was very detailed and made me think how much knowledge he has acquired over the years, it will definitely serve us well later on. Thank you for your words.馃挐

This is as far as this blog has gone, wait to see how it goes with the remaining groups. bye-bye.馃懡馃挋

Groups 1 & 2 classes

Hello, hello, hello ✌馃懟

And finally, OUR classes started馃拃. I was surprised how many new people and new faces were in the classroom, thanks to them the classes can be taught with pleasure. Now I am going to tell you a little about the first two groups. First, I want to say that they had a great challenge as it is never easy to start or be the first at something, but they did very well.馃憦

The first group started by having all the students introduce themselves, they made a circle where each one said their name and then they made them memorize each other's names. They had to repeat them, which I thought was good because it helps us all and them to get to know the people they will see during more classes. Also, they gave them a name tag with their names on it, which was very clever.馃

Then, they taught the alphabet the basics of how the letters are pronounced in English, showing words with each letter and having them repeat them aloud. They went on to teach about greetings, and they showed formal and informal ways that you can say hello. Finally, it was the Verb to be, which at the end of the explanation the students did several exercises to put into practice what they learned.馃挭

The second group, after the 15-minute break given to the students, started practicing the verb to be, which was the last topic learned in the first group. 馃

This class was more about grammar, the students did several exercises like ordering sentences, they created some sentences as well, they did role plays, they created conversations and so they demonstrated everything they learned during the day.馃挭

And that was it, my classmates did a great job with their classes, as I said, it is not easy to be the first ones, but they did very well. Besides, we also learned from them, both about the topics and the things we should take into account when we teach our classes.

Stay tuned for the next entries, this is just the beginning. Bye-bye馃懡馃挏

Group Planning and Feedback

Hi, welcome back to my blog!✌❤

For this class, there is no new topic, but it was used to give us feedback on the presentations, and for group planning. Teacher Orlando had already told us to form groups of 4 and then called who would be the leader in order to distribute the topics, and also the group number. Our leader is Giselle, and she got group number 3馃槍. What makes it more interesting to give these classes is that it will be with real students, and we will be in charge of bringing them, that makes me a little nervous, but I will give my best, together with my group.馃挭

(Before the class started we changed the wallpaper hehe)馃槇

In the other part of the class, the teacher spent time giving feedback to each group. He started by asking us how we had felt if we would have liked to change anything in our class, and things like that馃懡. Then, he told us what he thought and his impression, he liked the good time management we had, of course, we also had things to improve, but all this will help us to be able to give our next class.馃挮

So, that would be all for now. Stay tuned to see our great role as teachers. see you next time, bye-bye.馃懟馃挋

PDP (Pre-During-Post)

Hello everyone, welcome to a new entry! 馃挓

During this week, we were introduced to the PDP method, specifically designed for developing receptive skills.

It is essential because it allows teachers to effectively design and create effective listening and reading comprehension lessons that improve students' comprehension and achieve the goal of allowing them to understand the text. In addition, it prepares students for various activities that improve their comprehension skills, encourages active participation in reading or comprehension lessons, and promotes the improvement of receptive skills.✍馃

PRE - It represents the pre-lesson phase that follows the learners' engagement with the text through reading or listening. During this phase, activities include actions such as activating prior knowledge, evaluation of learners' prior knowledge, and introduction of essential vocabulary necessary for understanding the text.

DURING - This phase of the lesson takes place when students are actively engaged with the text through reading or listening. During this phase, learners are introduced to a variety of activities designed to provide them with repetitive interactions with the text. These activities are presented to the learners before they read or listen to the text and should involve a variety of teaching techniques.

POST - This phase takes place once students have completed the reading or listening task and have demonstrated comprehension. The POST phase, it is not essential in a receptive skills class, serves as an additional component. The student's primary learning objective is achieved at the end of the DURING phase. Activities in the POST phase focus on developing and incorporating supplementary skills by using and extending the content, or topic of the text. These activities also help learners strengthen their new knowledge.

Teacher Orlando provided us with a comprehensive lesson with all these steps, primarily focusing on the topic of scents. He sat down to write the lesson plan and asked us for ideas, making it an interactive experience. However, in my opinion, this class was also one of the most theoretical sessions we've had on this register.

So, that would be all for now, see you next time, bye-bye.馃懡馃挋

Grammar and vocabulary classes

Welcome to a new check-in and a new post on my blog!馃懟❤

For this week I bring a summary of how we made groups and gave either vocabulary or grammar classes, which for some of us was something new to take on the role of teacher.

First I would like to mention how random it was that we all arrived in black, each group had to choose a color and coincidentally, we all chose black.馃槀

Group 1: Vocabulary - Hospital馃彞

We started our classes, and the first group presented a particularly fascinating topic! We were instructed in the vocabulary related to hospitals, which was very informative. Surprisingly, there were certain words that we were unfamiliar with despite having an advanced level of English, or so we thought.

First, they gave us some definitions and then went on to give us pages with exercises, they gave us an alphabet soup and another one to relate the term with its definitions. Then, they went on to do something more practical which was a game of Kahoot which I won second place, a win is a win.

Group 2: Grammar - Third conditional馃搼

This group gave a lesson on the third conditional, which uses the "if" clause to talk about events that never happened or to describe hypothetical situations in the past.

We were initially instructed on the structure and then guided to form sentences on the board, also providing a set of sentences for us to identify the constructions of the Third Conditional.

I liked that it was a pretty organized group and they made everyone participate, they were committed to everyone learning the structure.

Group 3: Vocabulary - Cooking馃嵆

It's my group's turn. We chose culinary vocabulary because we think that these are words that, despite having a good level of English, we still don't have much knowledge outside of the basics. I liked this topic because we learned techniques, ingredients, and procedures that I had no idea how to say.

We started by asking what their favorite dish was and if they had an idea of how to prepare it. And basically, that was the point of the whole class. We taught new words, most of which are derivations of French, as well as procedures, and we pushed them to bring out their inner chef.馃崥

Group 4: Grammar - Second conditional.馃寛

They talked about the second conditional. During the lesson, we understood that the Second Conditional is used to talk about future events that are improbable or situations that are not possible.馃唶

For the activity we were put into groups and given an envelope with cut out words, which we had to order and put together sentences.

Then, they showed us that they had a roulette wheel with the name of each one of us. I was telling a friend that it would be bad luck if our name came up out of all the names, and that's when my name came up on the wheel and I had to participate.馃ぁ And finally, they did a chain sentence activity, so to speak, they did was the students had to use what the last person had said, using the second conditional, and create a sentence.

It was a challenging but interesting activity. That was all for this entry, I hope it has been fun to read. See you next time, bye-bye馃挌馃懡
